Portland, Ore. (Sept. 16, 2024) – New Season Treatment Center proudly invites members of the press and the public to the ribbon-cutting ceremony for its first mobile opioid treatment unit, “On the Road to Recovery,” on Oct. 8, 2024. The mobile unit is set to revolutionize access to opioid addiction treatment in the Portland area by bringing services directly to underserved communities.

The event will take place at Victory Outreach Church from 11:30 a.m. PDT to 1:00 p.m. PDT, where attendees will get an exclusive first look at the mobile unit’s operations and hear from key leaders behind the operation. This first-of-its-kind unit outside of tribal grounds in Portland is part of New Season’s commitment to breaking down barriers to care for those battling opioid use disorder (OUD).

“By integrating telemedicine into our mobile unit, we are reshaping the landscape of care for individuals with opioid use disorder, particularly those in hard-to-reach areas,” JohnPaul Parraga, the director of telemedicine at New Season, said.

“This approach not only increases access to treatment in critical moments, but also provides a continuous line of support where traditional care models often fall short. By ensuring that every step of the process for our mobile unit is patient-centric, from protocol development to patient interaction, we are streamlined, evidence-based, and accessible, making recovery more attainable for a vulnerable population that needs it most.”

The mobile unit features two dosing windows for quick and efficient daily medication dispensation, offering comprehensive care that includes virtual counseling services. Patients are already expressing excitement about the ease and convenience of this new approach:

  • “It sounds like you are taking it where the problem is.”
  • “Oh, I can go to that one. It’s right across from my house, and I won’t have to miss dosing anymore.”
  • “It’s so much closer to me, and I won’t have to deal with transportation issues.”
  • “It will get me out of these lines and give me time back in my day.”
  • “I like the idea of being able to phone in my appointments; it’s more convenient.”

The mobile unit will initially serve approximately 10 patients who have expressed interest in transferring their care with a goal of reaching a census of 75 within the first year. It will be staffed daily by a team of three to four members, including one or two nurses, a driver/security officer, and support staff for clinical tasks. A provider will visit the unit once per week to further assist in care delivery.

Jim Shaheen, the CEO of New Season Treatment Center, said, “Our mobile unit is an important step in our mission to reach and serve more patients. We recognize the urgent need for accessible treatment options throughout the community, and this initiative represents our dedication to addressing that need.”

This mobile unit launch marks a significant expansion of New Season’s commitment to ensuring that opioid addiction treatment is available to those who need it most, regardless of location or circumstances.
