Mental Health Awareness: A Top Priority for New Season Team in Gulf Coast Region
The workday extends well beyond office hours for the New Season team in Biloxi, Mississippi. In May, the healthcare providers recognized Mental Health Awareness month by educating their patients about the topic in a fun and entertaining way.
“I’m exceedingly proud of our New Season clinicians and staff members who see this profession as not only a job or career, but a life-long calling to bring patients with opioid use disorder to sustained health,” Cynthia Luna, the Regional Director who oversees the New Season treatment centers in the Gulf Coast region, said.
The counselors wore custom-made, green t-shirts every Friday in May to promote mental health awareness. The counselors and nurses sported witty “Check Your Mental Health” shirts and served donuts to educate their patients of the importance of mental health in a fun and engaging approach.
“The color green symbolizes mental health awareness. These shirts are just a small way to show our team’s huge support of the cause,” Quinta Anderson, a counselor at the treatment center who designed the shirts, said.
In addition to the shirts and donuts on Friday, the Biloxi Treatment Center was adorned with “Did You Know Posters” to enlighten patients on facts about mental health.
Mental illness is one of the leading causes of opioid misuse.
